Your trip from Guwahati to Shillong will begin with a brief meet and greet at the airport. After you leave the city of Guwahati, continue driving over the Assamese plains. Ascending the road, you'll see that stores on your right say Meghalaya, while those on your left indicate Assam. This goes on for a few more kilometers till you eventually turn right and enter Meghalaya, the land of clouds.
Cherrapunjee is among Meghalaya's most picturesque locations. Despite the short distance, the travel from Shillong to Cherrapunjee will take nearly the whole day because there are so many amazing sights to see in Cherrapunjee and the surrounding area. There are many sights to view during today's tour. You will have seen the following locations at the conclusion of the day: Elephant Falls, Shillong Mountain, Mawkdok Point of View, Wah Kaba Falls, Caves of Arwa, The Dainthlen Falls, The Nonkalikhai Falls, Arwah Caves.
The living root bridge, also called the jingkieng nongriat (double-decker living root bridge), is a bioengineering marvel that you will be strolling to. Tyrna is a little settlement where the journey to the double-decker living root bridge begins. Here, your guide will accompany you as they lead you through charming villages, azure natural ponds, and stunning foliage. Reaching the double-decker living root bridge at a fast pace will take over one hour. Once you're there, relax by the natural pool close to the root bridge. At your own pace, explore the region before beginning the walk back.
After breakfast today, depart at your leisure and head for Mawlynnong village. Nestled on a small hill with a view of the Bangladesh lowlands, Mawlynnong is a charming village that is well-known for being Asia's cleanest village. But first, we'll make a diversion at Dawki in the direction of the India-Bangladesh border.
To observe how everyone, from children to the elderly, works to keep even the smallest piece of trash off the streets and anywhere else than the dustbins, get up early and take a stroll about the charming village with its century-old church. Return to your Khasi guesthouse to change and depart. We will visit the Riwai village's single-decker living root bridge after breakfast. From there, head to Jowai, but not before stopping by and taking in the stunning Krangsuri waterfall.
Get out of bed early and take a second stroll around your homestay. An leisurely stroll is one of the greatest ways to experience this ideal location, which is outside of Jowai town. After breakfast, proceed to the Nartiang Monolith Park to see the Jaintia people's stone monoliths. Despite its lack of upkeep, the location is extremely important to the area. The former Jaintia monarchs built the monoliths of Meghalaya, which are reputed to be among the tallest in the world. However, if you are not interested in history, you might choose to skip this location and go straight to the Laitlum Canyons. It's a lovely spot to sit and unwind. After that, proceed to Shillong for your stay.
Enjoy on the final day of your journey. If you haven't done, do some last-minute shopping from Shillong after checking out at around ten. Before going directly to the airport on your way back to Guwahati, don't hesitate to make another stop at Umiam Lake or the Umiam Lake viewpoint.
